The design for the Double Stack emerged as a response to the logistical and budgetary difficulties of construction on a steep up-sloping lot located on a narrow sub-standard street. The solution was to situate two interlocking pre-fabricated dwellings above the most compact footprint possible, while still providing privacy, outdoor space, views, and ample natural light. The site construction consists of two independent garages carved into the hillside, an entry stair, and a shared terrace. Above this level, six pre-fabricated modules will be installed to compose two autonomous, yet interlocking residences. Each unit will have four exposures, in addition to physical access to both private and shared exterior spaces.
