“Sensitive Skins” suggests a prototype for dermis-like interior surfaces. Occupant input such as proximity, touch, temperature, and sound shall affect the physical and optical nature of the architecture to present a malleable, unpredictable, and potentially learning environment. “Sensitive Skins” are a large array of inflatable air-filled bladders, embedded LED’s, and audio/video input/output controlled by various photoelectric sensors. “Sensitive Skins” questions common material notions through the creation of an architecture that responds to stimuli, exhibits “body language” and “feels” pleasure and pain.
