Vandkulturhus

Acknowledging the emotional, psychological and spiritual dichotomy of pool and spa culture, the aqua center presents these two realms as halves of one common spatial shell: the active and the passive. The contiguous circuit/play/diving pools, the children’s pools and the hot water/outdoor pools are located within the large main space of the active realm, forming the shell’s lower half. The passive realm comprises the upper floor and roof levels, housing the spa programs as well as the outdoor leisure space and amphitheater. The act of closing the shell, superimposing the two cultures affords the occupants a complex visual, sensual, and aural experience orchestrated through the articulation of water as an ephemeral, yet primary experiential material.
