Located in the Hollywood Hills, the addition to a 1950’s residence was situated to frame the views of Mulholland Drive, maximize open deck/terrace spaces and to preserve a densely landscaped hillside. The design consists of a perforated steel skin wrapping the addition and the existing deck to both frame the views of the adjacent canyon, as well as to screen the interior of the residence. The existing structure remains largely untouched. The three level addition – consisting of an expanded master bedroom on the first floor, a guest suite on the garden level, and a roof deck – expands the relationship to the landscape beyond, while increasing the privacy of the exterior outdoor spaces.
